Hero Ventures, a Los Angeles based entertainment company, announced today that it is teaming up with Marvel Entertainment to create “The Marvel Experience,” an innovative, traveling experience, featuring dozens of Marvel’s iconic Super Heroes. This attraction will appeal to a multi-generational audience and will leverage state-of-the-art interactive and multimedia technology, including a 4D motion ride and original 3D animated features, allowing fans to be a part of the action. The tour comes to life in 2014.
Founded by sports and entertainment industry entrepreneurs Rick Licht and Doug Schaer, Hero Ventures is dedicated to producing unique themed entertainment experiences. Solidifying the management team are Michael Cohl, former Live Nation Chairman and legendary live event impresario, along with his Spider-Man: Turn Off The Dark co-producer and PRG founder Jeremiah “Jere” Harris, who will serve as lead producers. The team is rounded out by co-founding partner Jason Rosen.
Initial “A” round investors include Oscar winning film producer and co-owner of the NFL’s New York Giants, Steve Tisch; Roy P. Disney and Shamrock Holdings; Guess Jeans co-Founders Maurice & Paul Marciano; WWE®; Vista Equity Partners President Brian Sheth; Ross Hilton Kemper and Enlight Media, among others. In addition, Tisch, Shamrock’s Stanley Gold, Maurice Marciano, WWE’s Basil V. DeVito, Jr. and Enlight’s David B. Miller will serve alongside Licht, Schaer, Cohl and Harris on Hero Ventures Board of Directors.
The Marvel Experience is a “first-person” Super Hero adventure in which audiences step into the Marvel Universe to become a part of the story and the action. Innovative tour elements include a one-of-a-kind, traveling dome complex the size of two football fields developed exclusively by Hero Ventures. In addition to the 4D motion ride and 3D animated features, other components will include digitally projected animation, motion-comic origin stories, virtual reality and holographic simulations, original merchandise and integrated social media touch points all carefully woven into the rich narrative story line.
“Hero Ventures is developing a themed entertainment concept that we expect will be a transformative, traveling destination that will deliver to fans and families an exciting, groundbreaking and unique experience,” says Marvel’s VP of Business Development, Sean Haran.
The characters and stories of the Marvel Universe are beloved around the world by ages young and old as seen with the recent global box office records for Marvel’s The Avengers and Marvel’s Iron Man 3.
“The dynamic creative elements we’re developing are going to enable anyone to feel like a Super Hero like Spider-Man or Captain America,” says Hero Ventures’ CEO Rick Licht. “We couldn’t be more excited about our partnership with Marvel. Kids and adults are going to be absolutely inspired, empowered and thrilled from start to finish, with an immersive experience that is not just memorable, but unforgettable!”
Among the creative visionaries behind this $30+ million production is an elite team of creative award winners of Oscars, Emmys, CLIOS, THEOS and other technical and animation awards to their collective credit.
“The Marvel Universe just keeps getting hotter, as seen by the massive world-wide box office and merchandise success of their characters,” says Michael Cohl. “We can’t wait to bring our Marvel vision to life in this first-of-its-kind event.”

Today, Hero Ventures released a first-look rendering of the highly anticipated design of The Marvel Experience domed complex set to tour the country in 2014.
Canvassing a 2-acre footprint of more than 80,000 square feet, this state-of-the-art, custom built multi-Dome complex will represent the first time a venue of this type, size and scope will be utilized for a mobile tour. From the outside, The Marvel Experience resembles a temporary S.H.I.E.L.D. installation or “Mobile Command Center,” with the facility’s apex towering more than six stories high. Inside, a maze of connected Domes will lead guests through an array of interactive games and original animated short films including the first- ever traveling motion-based ride, where guests become immersed in this original adventure only found in The Marvel Experience. This unique, themed entertainment experience is scheduled to visit select US and Canadian markets for weeks at a time in each city and is designed to engage audiences through compelling family entertainment with a production value consistent with the iconic nature of the Marvel Super Heroes.
The touring experience was designed in concert with a team of industry renowned all-stars and award winners including one of the motion picture industry’s most noted concept artists, Aaron Sims, who art directed the illustration. Sims, who will also be offering up his unparalleled vision for the Tour’s character and environment animation is no stranger to the Marvel Universe. He has brought Marvel characters to life through his work on numerous feature films including, Marvel’s The Incredible Hulk, Sony’s The Amazing Spider-Man, and Fox’s X-Men: First Class. Sims is one of the Industry’s most prolific special effects artists having worked with Steven Spielberg on A.I. and War of the Worlds, Michael Bay’s Transformers and many other visually spectacular films.

Theme-Park Superstar Jerry Rees Leads Creative Team for The Marvel Experience
Award-winning director, producer and writer guides this immersive adventure through the world of Marvel.
A lot goes into creating a traveling themed attraction as technologically advanced as The Marvel Experience. Between the original animations and the interactive multimedia landscape within and surrounding our massive domed complex, we felt the need to create a dream team to produce the media content for this next-gen attraction.
While assembling the team was challenging, finding its leader was even more so. And so we’re excited to announce that animation and theme-park attraction Hall-of-Famer, Jerry Rees has agreed to helm the creative team.
Rees has directed a record-setting 16 Disney theme-park attractions around the world, from California to Hong Kong, and from Florida to Paris, including winning THEA Awards for “Cinemagique” (Best Attraction), as well as “Animation Magic,” Disney’s new cruise-ship attraction that won the award for “most innovative use of technology.”
We cornered Jerry in the office and chatted about what it’s like working on such an exciting and ground-breaking project.
The Marvel Experience: You were one of the first students accepted into the legendary CalArts Character Animation Program. You’ve worked with the likes of Eric Larson, Jack Hannah, John Lasseter and Tim Burton to name drop a few. What was it like learning and working with these legendary artists?
Jerry Rees: I had the good fortune of mentoring at Disney Feature Animation as a teen, several years prior to the start of the CalArts program. Four of Disney’s “Nine Old Men” were still at their desks animating. It was extraordinary to watch them at work. They shared passionate opinions that I’ve always remembered. Among them: “Create projects that you truly love. If you don’t love your own films, how do you know that anyone else will?” They emphasized the importance of bringing your own life experience into the process rather than copying other artists and storytellers. And they bluntly stated that they never made projects for kids, rather making projects that appealed to their own inner-youth. John, Tim and I definitely took this advice to heart as we started our adventures in the industry. We’ve had so much fun together—from the days when Tim and I were co-directing silly home movies to recent mega projects at Imagineering where John is now Principal Creative Advisor.
TME: You were the Director of Media on “Mystic Manor” (Disneyland Hong Kong), which was also nominated for the Visual Effects Society Awards in the category of Outstanding Visual Effects. The ride looks pretty amazing! What role did new technologies play in the development of the attraction?
JR: One of the thrills of Mystic Manor was the sophisticated blend of traditional and wildly new techniques. Just to cite one example, there’s a climactic scene where an entire room begins in pristine form but is ripped to shreds by a magical storm. Projection mapping was heavily involved, but not simply in the way you might see it at a deadmau5 concert—we projection mapped onto architecture that can move in perfect sync with the media. When a hole blasts through a wall, it isn’t simply a trick of projection—the wall really does break. Your eyes focus on deeper projections beyond the hole, giving you 3-D perception without glasses. And all of this is while ride vehicles are spinning and a massive jade Monkey King is slinging spells.
TME: How has your past experience with creating themed attractions helped you in your vision for The Marvel Experience and what past experience have you drawn from the most in directing TME?
JR: Over the course of directing many first-of-their-kind attractions, I’ve grown accustomed to leading teams into uncharted territory without fear. With high adrenaline pumping and laser-tight strategy of course! But with confidence from all departments as we chart the new course. And I’ve also grown accustomed to accommodating tasks that no normal movie director has to face, like filming actors in a remote desert location while taking into account the exact size and placement of the movie theater screen surface—since the actors will be stepping out of the movie screen into the physical theater for every show. Or planning scenes so that they will be ready to accommodate characters that don’t exist yet, since they will be drawn moments before the show starts—freehand—by 700 audience members. All of these adventures have kept me craving the next, newest experience to share with audiences.
TME: What makes The Marvel Experience unique compared to your previous projects?
JR: The Marvel Experience is a fantastic step forward, combining the immediacy, intimacy and interactivity of new media with the overwhelming spectacle of themed attractions. Audiences will be among the characters, immersed in the story, interacting with the adventure. Plus, rather than being bolted to the ground in one theme park for 15 years, The Marvel Experience will come to your city! This whole mobile extravaganza experiment—especially since it folds in reality, virtual reality, augmented reality, huge dome media, 3-D and 4-D elements, animatronics, motion ride and RFID tracking—is poised to set the new trend in themed entertainment. It’s like a shining beacon on the next horizon of new media, and our whole team is thrilled to be setting it alight!
TME: Tell us about this 360-degree stereoscopic 3-D theater, the motion ride, and what it’s like working within a domed environment.
JR: Planning for a 360-degree stereoscopic 3-D dome theater is wild. There are no standard shots or cuts. The entire world exists at all times completely around the audience and over their heads. Characters can approach from anywhere and take action everywhere. The audience members decide where to look. You can imagine how mind-boggling this was to pre-visualize on a computer screen. It’s a bit like sending your friend an Instagram pic of the Grand Canyon, then trying to explain how it is WAY, WAY, WAY bigger that it looks through that little window. The team at The Third Floor pre-viz facility built us a room where you could look all around you with a virtual camera while the scene played, which helped a great deal. But ultimately, in the dome, where the media is meant to play, the experience goes beyond Oculus Rift, since each person is not isolated in the virtual world—you and your friends will see each other, while sharing the 360-degree adventure all around you.
Our motion ride had similar challenges. Since it depicts riding in a S.H.I.E.L.D. transport, it displays a continuous view through the canopy, with no standard movie cuts. And there is no “offscreen” above you, since the entire sky always exists. Characters can be directly beside you to the right or left, even if you are in the back row! And we are using narrative storytelling all the while, weaving our favorite heroes throughout the hair-raising battle action. It’s all done in one wild, all-encompassing, shot.
TME: What are some of the challenges in creating an immersive experience featuring so many Marvel characters?
JR: So, a bunch of animators ask, “Which shots are my characters in?” And I answer, “There is only one shot—the whole movie is one shot. With a constantly moving camera. All of your characters are in that same shot.” They look at each other and take a deep breath. You get the idea.
TME: And finally, who is your favorite Marvel Super Hero, and why?
JR: Are you kidding?! You’re asking for my favorite among that astoundingly deep archive of Marvel characters? Hard to do, man. Well, with the caveat that I love so many, and love to see ensemble stories among them, I guess I’ll have to go with Iron Man. Since I was a kid I looked up science and sci-fi info on mechanical exoskeletons. Tony Stark has the ultimately sleek and ultimately outfitted suit and it can FLY. Plus he’s a bit of an outsider, which I relate to having been the indie “gypsy” for many years in my career. And I admire his quest for ingenious invention and for justice. My message to Tony: Can’t wait to turn you loose at The Marvel Experience!

Bien que The Marvel Experience débute sa tournée dans moins de sept semaines, nous n'en savons toujours pas beaucoup plus sur le contenu de cette expérience interactive qui proposera quatorze attractions réparties dans sept gigantesques dômes.
Tout au plus les producteurs (Hero Ventures) ont-ils mentionné un cinéma 3D à 360° et une attraction 4D ainsi qu'une utilisation poussée des dernières technologies pour renforcer l'interactivité avec les visiteurs.

An Exclusive First Look at the Superheroes Uniting for 'The Marvel Experience'
It might be a while before we see Iron Man, Captain America, and their Avenger brethren sharing the big screen with fellow Marvel superheroes Spider-Man and Wolverine… if that ever happens at all. That’s because Disney currently owns the film rights to Marvel’s The Avengers, while Sony claims Spider-Man and Fox keeps its claws on Wolverine/X-Men. Getting all those studios to collaborate could be a gargantuan, if not impossible, task.
Spidey and Wolverine will assemble with The Avengers, however, in the upcoming interactive tour The Marvel Experience, and we’ve got an exclusive look at how all 13 originally designed heroes will look in animated form above. In addition to Iron Man, Cap, Thor, Hulk, Black Widow, Spider-Man and Wolverine, the lineup also features recognizable characters like S.H.I.E.L.D.’s Nick Fury and Maria Hill, as well as heroes who have yet to appear on screen: The Vision (who will debut in Avengers: Age of Ultron), Iron First (who will be the subject of a Netflix series next year), and fan favorites Black Panther and She-Hulk (both of whom are still trying to lock up movie deals).
"This is the only place you’ll see them together, and we’re proud of that," says Rick Licht, CEO of Hero Ventures, the entertainment company behind the tour. Licht and his team take special pride in The Vision, especially, having locked him in for The Marvel Experience before it was announced the character would play an pivotal part of next summer’s Age of Ultron. “We had him first,” Licht says laughing. “We wanted him all to ourselves.”
The Marvel Experience, which kicks off Dec. 12 in Scottsdale, Arizona, is a fully interactive and immersive event that will be held in an interconnected layout of seven massive tented domes across two acres, and includes a 4D motion ride as well as 20-plus minutes of original 3D animation featuring the aforementioned characters. “It’s a projection-heavy show with feature-film quality animation,” explains Hero Ventures’ COO, Doug Schaer, adding that the narrative will play out in a series of three-to-four minute sequences.
Fans will be introduced to the storyline in the first dome by Nick Fury, who explains the task at hand via a debriefing: Classified data has been stolen by a Super-Adaptoid, and that intel ends up in fragments strewn around North America, leading S.H.I.E.L.D. and Stark Industries to construct this series of sophisticated domes in your city for excavation. The story then advances and expands to include all our heroes once it moves into the main attraction, a 20,000-square feet dome.
"We wanted to take all these characters and weave them into a story that was dynamic, was feature-film quality, and had depth and complexity to it, which is a hallmark of Marvel," Schaer says. "There’s nothing simple in the Marvel universe. You don’t find flat, generic, formulaic stories." Licht says this narrative will sync up with what we’ve seen the characters who have made movie appearances recently do on the big screen: "We didn’t want to do a disservice to where they are now," he explains. "We can’t be parallel towers when they’re ascending and we’re coming up with a story that barely matches what everyone’s come to expect from Marvel."
Hero Ventures did want to extend its reach beyond the Marvel Cinematic Universe. “We tried to pull characters and heroes and villains from kids’ shows, from movies, things that they are doing on Netflix, from comic books, from all the different touch points that Marvel has,” says Schaer.
Another goal was diversity: “We want to make sure we’re being representative of our target audiences, fans. There’s a lot of old-school characters, and a lot of newer-school characters, too,” Schaer adds. “We want to make sure we have something for everyone.”

ma petite contribution aux photos. j'ai eu la chance d'y participer en fevrier dernier à Del Mar californie. L'experience est sympa et mon avis un tres bon test pour d'eventuel futur attractions. Heuresement que c'etait un jour de faible affluence, si non à mon avis l'experience est sous dimentioner . en tout cas j'ai adorer le ciné imax de fin et l'nesemble des elements de deco.

Il y avait longtemps que nous n'avions pas reçu de nouvelles de The Marvel Experience qui avait subitement interrompu sa tournée après son passage à Philadelphie en juillet 2015 (les autres étapes ont été annulées et les billets écoulés en prévente ont été remboursés) :
Une entreprise coréenne (Hans Holdings) annonce avoir acquis les droits pour la Corée du Sud et le Japon.
The Marvel Experience devrait donc revenir et effectuer une tournée dans ces deux pays d'Asie de l'Est à partir de la fin 2016 ou début 2017.
Les villes coréennes et japonaises qui accueilleront cette expérience interactive basée sur les Super-Héros et Super-Vilains de l'Univers Marvel seront communiquées ultérieurement.
