Captain EO is now open in Tomorrowland's old Magic Eye Theater. The show reopened with the rest of Disneyland at 10 am Tuesday after several Guests camped out overnight to be in the first showing.

Classic Attraction Featuring Michael Jackson Now Open

ANAHEIM, Calif. (Feb. 23, 2010) – “Captain EO,” the classic musical spectacular that thrilled Disneyland park guests from 1986-1997, is now open at Disneyland. The attraction’s return to Tomorrowland provides new audiences the opportunity to experience the original 3D production for the very first time, as well as a nostalgic look back for longtime fans wanting to see “The King of Pop” in a rare performance created for the big-screen.

Twenty-three years ago, at the height of his phenomenal entertainment career, Michael Jackson joined forces with Disney, producer George Lucas and director Francis Ford Coppola to create a groundbreaking 17-minute 3D film experience starring Jackson as Captain EO performing two original songs, and featuring Academy Award®-winning actress Anjelica Huston, and a cast of merry, mythical space characters with dual personalities who undergo magical transformations to become Jackson's electronic band in conquering the forces of darkness.

The colorful Disney-created characters include: Hooter, the little green elephant-like creature who sneezes wild musical notes through his flute-like trunk; Fuzzball, the orange-haired space monkey with butterfly wings; the Geex, a golden-haired, two-faced personality with two left feet, one right foot and two shaggy heads named Idy and Ody; Major Domo, whose mirrored silver costume becomes a complete set of drums, and Minor Domo with his sparkling purple torso that turns into an electronic synthesizer played by Hooter.

For all its technology, “Captain EO” is first and foremost a musical spectacular and a thrilling space-fantasy adventure. The realism of the 3D process will once again make it seem that Jackson dances right out of the screen into the theater. While it’s not possible to replicate some of the special effects elements from the original presentation, it will boast a new 70mm print of the film and sound better than ever thanks to acoustical enhancements made to the theater since the film last played there. The total effect is one of motion, color and high energy filled with Jackson’s musical brilliance and various illusions to create an exciting and realistic journey in space for the audience.

During the journey, Captain EO and his merry crew discover a colorless planet where they are confronted by the Supreme Leader (Huston) and her forces of darkness. Using the power of music, dance and light to fill the planet and the theater with all the shades of the rainbow, the EO crew turns the black and white land into a magical world of color and happiness.

“Captain EO” makes use of more famous-name talents than any other film of its length ever produced. The production called on Hollywood’s finest choreographers, set designers, costume creators and special effects artists – all of them excited by the challenge of shooting this kind of imaginative film in three dimensions.

It's great that even temporary attractions get treated to fancy new signage like the neon Captain EO marquee.

Captain EO shows now run continuously at Disneyland. No date has been set for the end of this attraction's limited engagement.

Les tee Shirt ne sont vraiment pas terrible je trouve !

Si je comprends bien leur preshow chez eux, c'est dehors la ou il y a les tv ??? ils n'ont pas une salle de preshow a l'interieur comme a paris

Oui exact ! Le préshow ce fait à l'extérieur à mon avis la version francaise n'a pas été conçu comme ça à cause du climat

J'ai fais cette fameuse attraction hier, pendant le préshow il raconte qu'il y a quelque année, il y avais cette attraction et que maintenant elle est de retour. Ne l'ayant jamais fais avant (u moin pas de souvenir), je voulais savoir si dans l'ancien préshow, il avais une présentation sur comment avais été réalisé ce film ? Car hier pendant le préshow le film expliquais comment il à été réalisé, les danseurs, les acteurs ect ...

En tout cas je suis heureuse de l'avoir enfin découvert en live et en 3D (je ne l'avais vu qu'en vidéo), Michael est fabuleux dedans, et puis l'ambiance dans la salle pendant le film est spéctaculaire, on sent bien que les Américain l'aime beaucoup !!!

Oui oui, quand EO était présent (à DLR, WDW, DLP, etc...) il y avait la vidéo du préshow qui montrait les coulisses du film, le préshow que tu as vu est bien l'original qu'ils ont remis pour l'occasion

Et bien peut etre pas à Disneyland Paris mais en tout cas à DL, c'est bien ce preshow qui était présent à l'origine ! Il suffit de regarder les forums américains ou plus simplement les commentaires des vidéos de Youtube pour constater que ce preshow est bien l'original ! De plus, ça le dit dans la vidéo avant celui-ci, "this is the original preshow" ou un truc du genre !

Le préshow diffusé à DLRP été "Boite à Souvenirs" sponsorisé par Kodak, il n'y à jamais eu de préshow avec un "Making-of" à DLRP ! Certainement dans d'autre resort, mais pas à Paris en tout cas.

Inside Disneyland, its business as usual this spring with big, happy crowds defying any hint of recession outside the gates. Captain EO has proven to be the hit TDA was hoping for this winter, as the daily attendance at the theater attraction maxes out its capacity nearly every day. Instead of hosting an average of 1,500 to 2,500 total visitors on busy days when it was Honey I Shrunk The Audience, Captain EO has been consistently turning in viewership figures around 15,000 or 16,000 per day, most noticeably with the teens and 20’s demographic.

Once the Disneyland stores team moved their Captain EO t-shirt display to the shop window that faces the theater exit (Talk about a bonehead merchandising mistake that first week! Cynthia would have been appalled.), the EO merchandise has been flying off the Star Trader shelves ever since. Now it’s just up to the TDA strategists to watch and see how long this EO craze lasts for them, and they are hoping it lasts through the Star Tours rehab next fall and winter.

They aren’t expecting peak crowds at EO through next winter, but anything above the miserable attendance that HISTA was generating for them will be seen as a success on top of these busy first few months for the Captain. Regardless of you feel about Captain EO returning to Tomorrowland, you have to admit that from a daily viewership and merchandise sales perspective replacing the tired old HISTA show with Captain EO was a very smart business move.

On peut donc espérer une prolongation de Captain Eo au détriment de HISTA ?

Ah c'est super, ça veut dire qu'au mois de septembre lors de mon voyage à Los Angeles l'attraction sera encore présente !! C'est trop cool, je n'ai jamais eu l'occasion de faire l'attraction auparavant (en France elle a fermée avant que je découvre DLP).

J'ai trop hâte d'y être !!!!!!!

Figure toi que l'attraction devrai réouvrir en Juillet en France tu pourra donc le faire avant le mois de Septembre si tu à l'occasion d'allé a DLP !
