Fort dommage effectivement... Le genre de choses qui me met hors de moi, car ce sont des produits conçus loin du terrain, sans questionnement sur la futur opération du produit... Pathétique!

En ce moment, seuls deux monorails circulent: un vieux aux couleurs de The Year of a Million Dreams (beurk) et le nouveau "Monorail Red" donc les frequences ne sont pas terribles...

Ceci dit, hier j'ai fait un tour dans le nouveau "Monorail Red":

MONORAIL RED TAKES FLIGHT
The first train in the latest generation of Disneyland Monorail is now
regularly taking park guests now that its issues have mostly been
worked out.

David "Darkbeer" Michael mentioned in his July 7 "Monday in the Parks" column
that newly-installed air scoops on top of the non-air conditioned
passenger cabins address the temperature issue aboard the new
Monorails. However, you can ditch the summer heat on the new Monorail
by requesting the front driver's cabin or the rear cabins - as they are
both air conditioned.

The new Mark VII is really beautiful and is sleek and futuristic in all the right ways.

Colored LEDs light Red's cabins in a cool blue glow and the new Monorail Mark VII logo is proudly displayed inside.

Ah, enfin ils ont arrangé leurs problèmes techniques, et l'intérieur tout comme l'exterieur est tout bonnement magnifique et montre qu'on est bien à Disneyland, loin (plus ou moins au premier degré) des classiques transports en commun !

With Small World reopened and its big hourly capacity back on line, Disneyland can then focus on other refurbishments over the winter and spring. At the top of that list is the troublesome new fleet of monorails that TDA purchased. Regular readers will know that these new monorail trains have caused some of the biggest headaches since the Rocket Rods, and there is still plenty of blame and legal wrangling to go around before the dust settles. But TDA's first priority right now is not figuring out who is to blame, but to get the trains running for hotel guests again. A fix for the ridiculous window design that didn't let in any fresh air into the non-air conditioned cabins has been tentatively agreed upon.

This winter the new Mark VII trains will go under the knife and have their sleek new skin ripped open so that new windows can be installed that slide down into the body, like the windows did since the ride opened in 1959. All of the other fixes thrown at this problem simply have failed to work, and the trains are still unusable any time the temperature goes above 80 degrees.

The new window design was a failure.

With the usual fall heat waves that Southern California gets, that has meant the three new trains sit there in the roundhouse on warm days, while the lone remaining Mark V train has struggled to keep up with the demand. It doesn't help that the Mark V was on its last legs months ago, and it's a minor miracle the old girl can still make it around the beam. But while Imagineers and TDA safety experts argue over who is to blame, the line of cranky hotel guests gets longer.

Let's just hope they learn their lesson on reinventing the wheel, and by next summer the windows have all been replaced on the new trains.

But the mistakes made with the Barbeque pale in comparison to the biggest headache in recent Disneyland history, the Mark VII Monorails. The new fleet was heralded as a long overdue refurbishment of the first daily operating monorail in America. The Mark VII trains were going to be vehicles that would bring glamour and excitement back to the Disneyland icon. But the reality for the park has been somewhat like discovering your new car is a lemon, and after your seventh trip to the dealership you realize the warranty department is closed and no one will return your calls.

WDI, who designed the new monorails but then contracted out a foundry up in British Columbia to assemble them, has basically washed their hands of the whole mess. It's now up to the Disneyland Facilities department to try and fabricate replacement parts and redesign the windows, vents and drive system elements that never worked to begin with or have already failed. That now leaves Disneyland with a ragtag fleet of half-working monorails, one of which can't operate at all, and two trains that can't operate in varying degrees of heat.

This weekend when the weather warmed up there were hours at a time when the Disneyland Monorail system was simply shut down entirely, leaving the hotel guests who paid big bucks with the expectation of taking the monorail back to the room having to walk the entire way from Tomorrowland to the Disneyland Hotel. That walk can easily be twice as long as the walk from Tomorrowland to the cheaper hotels on Harbor Blvd., and you can bet the hotel's desk clerks got an earful from the tired guests.

What's the solution? Now that WDI and the manufacturers have basically abandoned the project and left their lawyers to squabble over the details, the park is trying to regroup and figure out what parts it needs to fabricate or order to get at least two of the trains ready for minimal service this summer.

They may be pretty, but the Mark VII trains are now synonymous with an infamous process where WDI designers don't look to decades of operational experience in the parks when it comes to designing vehicles that work for the people operating them, maintaining them, or riding in them.

Monorail Blue at Disneyland gets new Version 3.0 Mark VII windows

Disney has finally come up with a version of the windows for the new Monorail that will offer the needed breeze on normal and hot days, and can close in rainy weather. And surprise, it works very similar to the Mark V version. Pretty much the window is actually three panels, with the middle panel having the ability to rise if needed on those rainy days, basically shutting the window, keeping the guests dry.

Monorail Orange still has the Version 2.0 windows, in which the top half of the window was basically removed, and cannot close in poor weather.

Heureusement que les problèmes s'arrangent! Toute cette histoire est à dormir debout, et je pense que si elle a duré aussi longtemps, c'est que les divisions intra-disney ne voulaient pas payer pour une faute commise.

WDI devraient revenir marcher dans le parc de temps en temps...
